Maine’s Marijuana Law Protects Marijuana Use Outside of Work

Compliance UpdateIn 2017, the state of Maine passed the Marijuana Legalization Act which legalized recreational marijuana use. The Maine lawmakers implemented a moratorium on retail sales, taxation, and the employment anti-discrimination provisions. On February 1, 2018, the employment anti-discrimination provisions became effective and prohibited employers from disciplining employees or refusing to hire applicants age 21 or older based on their marijuana or marijuana byproduct use outside of work.
