Our History

GIS, established in 1966, was one of the first national background screening companies in the United States. In 1996, GIS became an independent corporation and went on to become one of the largest dedicated background screening providers in the world.

GIS is known both for its trusted client service and as an industry innovator. GIS was the first company to offer a secure, web-based screening system, the first to offer automated report grading, and the first to offer an integrated progressive screening model. This has been coupled with numerous industry and client service recognitions.

Building on this proud tradition of innovation, GIS has launched the industry’s most configurable, pre-integrated total workforce management solution in existence. Built on a single platform, clients can now not just hire the best employees, but retain and develop their workforce with the click of a button.

GIS has been recognized for our dedication to quality over the past years. In 2005 GIS was chosen as the top provider of full-service workplace screening by HRO Today magazine. In 2006, GIS was given the Buyer’s Choice ranking for our criminal screening, accuracy, and customer service by HRO Today magazine.

For GIS’ dedication to technology CEO and Owner Raymond Conrad was awarded the 2007 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Carolinas. He was selected for his keen risk-taking sense, GIS rapid growth in the marketplace as well as his unique employee management and development style.
