Hiring in transportation is truly a balancing act. You have to understand and abide by the FCRA, state laws and EEOC Guidance like everyone else, but then you also get to add DOT regulations. On top of that, you still have to make sure that you’re providing the best possible candidate experience to hire the best possible employees. You need a screening partner that understands your pain points and can help you create a screening program that brings balance and fulfillment to all your needs. That’s where we come in.
It’s your job to understand background screening regulations as they apply to you. It’s our job to help you understand what regulations apply to you and how, and to help you fulfill those regulations. We take this responsibility seriously. Not only do we actively search for and report on a broad range of compliance issues, we issue frequent compliance alerts that help you understand how any changes impact you. Most importantly, we offer a full complement of compliance services.
We make it easy for you to fulfill all your FCRA and state requirements, offering compliant electronic Authorization & Disclosure solutions, as well as a full Adverse Action program, complete with Individualized Assessment. We further provide forms and guides to help you maintain compliance with other hiring Guidances, like the EEOC’s.
Where other industries just have to deal with general hiring compliance, your adherence to DOT regulations takes standard background checks to a new level. Things as simple as employment verifications are made more complex. We understand the strict requirements the DOT has for driver checks, and we’re you’re single source provider to fulfill those requirements.
Candidate experience is truly imperative in industries with a tight labor market. Though candidate experience experts tend to focus on the recruiting process, you really need to minimize the burdens on the applicant throughout the entire hiring process. Each inefficiency within the process, from recruiting to onboarding, is just another opportunity to lose your best candidates.
By integrating with your chosen HRIS, GIS can simplify the background screening process. We can take whatever information the HRIS provides to us to initiate the background check, and ask your applicants to just (electronically!) fill in the gaps using our Applicant Entry Portal.
We know that time is of the essence. On average, the final report is delivered to you within 48 hours, with some searches ready instantly. What’s more, by using tools like our Applicant Entry Portal, we get required information from the applicant much quicker, meaning that we can initiate the check earlier and get it done earlier.
Every hiring process is rife with forms that must be completed – from the authorization and disclosure for the background check to the Form I-9 for onboarding. GIS provides electronic services for all of these forms, which eases the burden on the applicant and makes them more likely to complete the paperwork.
If you can think of a check, chances are that GIS does it. In addition to our standard services, GIS offers solutions specially designed for the transportation industry.
DOT and DOT Look-Alike Physicals
We offer DOT and Non-DOT physicals (built to mimic DOT physicals) and we provide management tools for administering your physical exams online, including clinic selection and notification, health history for drivers’ completion, digital physical exam reports and real-time tracking. Plus, DOT exams will be validated with the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) to ensure that the physical was done by an examiner that is registered as active with the NRCME.
DOT Drug Testing Panels
GIS offers pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and random drug testing solutions. Our lab-based testing options (including urinalysis) and real-time access to our nationwide network offers everything you require to achieve a compliant and policy-driven program. By electronically linking all points in the drug testing process we can eliminate the blind spots that occur in traditional testing models.
DOT Employment Verifications
This service is designed to meet the requirements under 49 CFR Part 40.25 and requirements unique to each DOT agency. This includes sending good faith and certified non-compliance letters if attempts to verify fail.
Ongoing driver monitoring is proven to reduce your costs by giving you the data you need to make smart decisions about your driving population. The program manages driver data, automatically checking for all variable information (e.g. license status, new violations, certification expirations), while providing an actionable driver score that makes it easy to track all drivers across the country.
GIS can order reports on behalf of a customer as their designated agent. The PSP report includes safety performance information such as crash data from the previous five years and inspection history from the previous three years as sourced from the FMCSA Motor Carrier Management Information System database. Many of these violations and some crash records are not reflected on State MVRs, so PSP data provides added details regarding the applicant’s safety performance history.
In particular, some of our most popular services for our transportation clients are:
- Health and wellness services, including DOT Physicals.
- Drug screening, including DOT drug panels.
- Education and Employment verifications, including DOT-specific employment verifications.
- Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) that cover both CDL and Non-CDL Driving Records.
- PSP Reports for more in-depth data than is provided by MVRs
- Traditional criminal background checks, with electronic court interfaces covering the vast majority of the country.
- KwikScreen National Criminal Database, with more than 595 million records.
- National Sex Offender Registry covering all 50 states plus Washington, D.C., Guam, and Puerto Rico.
